Maya Ahia

Therapist, MA, Clinical and Counselling Psychology PhD Student

Hi there! My name is Maya Ahia (she/her). I received my MA in Clinical & Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto and completed my BA in Psychology, Political Science & Communications at McGill University. At present, I’m completing my PhD in Clinical & Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto. My current research focuses on applying strength-based approaches to explore the intersections of accessibility, disability and mental health. My clinical expertise is grounded in various evidence-based therapeutic methods such as; Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have worked with a diversity of clients across the lifespan addressing concerns with emotion dysregulation, posttraumatic stress, borderline personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression, grief, life-stress, relationships and self-esteem.

Now let’s chat a bit about you! I know that reaching out to begin or resume your therapeutic journey is a massive step and I'm here to help you build upon that momentum. I believe therapy should be accessible and over time arm you with the tools to be your own therapist day-to-day. I’m passionate about helping you to develop your self-confidence, navigate life-stress, process your lived experiences and (re)define and/or get back on track with your life goals. My culturally informed, strengths-based therapeutic approach will be personalized to your needs and honour the specificities of your unique identity.

It is my pleasure to offer a free 15-minute video or phone consultation for us to touch base and see if we're a good fit to work together. Thank you in advance for your trust, I look forward to supporting you in strengthening your mental health and taking the next step on your therapeutic journey.

I am supervised by Dr. Naomi Ennis, a Clinical Psychologist.
